Expert cover can cost many hundreds of pounds every year and when the economic climate is uncertain any way of saving money is valid. However insurance for photographic equipment and liability should be taken out. The basic debate is that it protects your business in situations where a loss or a lawsuit could effectively close you down.
Modern professional cameras, lenses and flashguns are very dear. A common digital SLR body can cost between two thousand and five thousand pounds. Top quality lenses are frequently 1 to 2 thousand pounds each. Flash guns cost 1 or 2 hundred pounds each. High capacity memory devices can also cost 1 or 2 hundred pounds. Each cameraman also needs backup equipment in the event of mechanical failure and a selection of lenses and lights to deal with different conditions.
